About this piece
With my previous artworks, you would have come to realize that poetry- or the pouring of words, often accompany my paintings. This painting, an upcoming theme of surrealist painting and artworks, is no exception.
“I feel the pressure to hold it together. Hold everything together. To nurture. Hold space for the pain, the ash, of others. Maybe it’s the pressure to be the ashtray. I also know that the world would be dirtier if there was no ashtray. I should be grateful for a purpose, no?
Hold your pose, dear girl. Hold the space for those who still need to rise.”
Exploring the idea of surrealist painting
Frida Khalo and Leonora Carrington are two of my favourites. I think Frida is a bit more famous- but Leonora was of the last survivors of the surrealist movements. Frida rejected the label as a surrealist. Maybe I just love them because of the Mexican flavour!
